"Perfect for travellers who love the mountains and local culture"
Travis Fenell - Wide Eyed Tours Owner

A four day tour for travellers who really want to experience the local lives of Vietnamese Ethnic Minorities. You'll travel overnight from Hanoi to Sapa on a comfortable sleeper train, spend the night with a local family and have a free day in Sapa to explore the countryside before heading to another ethnic minority village.

You will start you adventure by boarding the night train from Hanoi to the border town of Lao Cai in a comfortable 4 berth cabin.

  • DAY 02

    Stay with a local family

Arrive early morning in Lao Cai and drive 1 hr to Sapa where your guide will go over the day's activities. You will have the opportunity to trek down to the H'Mong village of Lao Chai before continuing to the Red Dzao village of Ta Van where you will overnight. At the Homestay you will enjoy local hospitality over dinner and breakfast with your host family.

  • DAY 03

    Explore Sapa

After breakfast you will trek to Muong Hoa River and visit the H'Mong village of Giang Ta Chai. Weather permitting the river is a great place to tak a swim and freshen up in the clear mountain water. Midday you take a jeep back to Sapa and have free time to explore the town.

  • DAY 04

Trek to a local village and return to Hanoi

After breakfast you will take a short trek to visit the H'Mong village of Cat Cat and the Red Dzao of Sin Chai with your Guide. Mid afternoon take the bus back to Lao Cai for your overnight train back to Hanoi.

Vietnam's Overnight Trains

Vietnam's overnight trains are basic, but a lot of fun. You'll board the train at a local train station and be assigned your own personal 4 birth compartment. The beds have soft matresses and room to stow your luggage. There is a dining cart selling noodles and drinks and a toilet. There isn't a shower on board so we reccomend taking some wet wipes or waiting until you reach the hotel to freshen up.

You'll spend one night in basic but comfortable accomodation with a local family and one night in a comfortable hotel in Sapa.

  • Overnight return train journey from Hanoi-Sapa
  • All accomodation
  • English speaking guide and entrance fees
  • Meals with your host family
