Watch a Muay Thai boxing match
During the day you will notice many mini-vans roaming streets of Krabi with big posters announcing the next boxing match between Muay Thai champions. Fights are held in the evening at Krabi stadium. Muay Thai is a traditional combat sport originated in fighting technics of ancient Thai army training. Spectators are seated around the rink where the best fighters show off the ancient art of war.
Take a boat to Railay Beach
If you are tired of Ao Nang beach (the main beach of Krabi town), hire a longtail boat and take a 20 minute ride to the Railay Beach. Cut from the mainland by limestone mountains it’s accessible only by boat. Railay Beach is one of the symbols of Thailand: clear blue waters, white sand, colourful boats. It’s a perfect spot for a day trip. Spend some time sunbathing and swimming, and then head out to one of the restaurants by the beach for a tasty seafood meal.
Swim in the Emerald Pool
To see something different, opt to take an hour drive from Krabi town to Thung Teao Forest Natural Park. The park is famous not only for its biodiversity – plentiful birds and animals to watch – but also for its warm natural pools. One of them – Crystal Lagoon (or more commonly known as Emerald Pool) is especially popular. Warm clear waters surrounded by trees have a bright emerald green shade. Spend an afternoon swimming in the lagoon and admiring the natural beauty.
Spend an afternoon Rock Climbing
Those who prefer active holidays can head to Phra Nang beach for a day of rock climbing. It is one of the most popular sports in Krabi. There are plenty of climbing routes: from simple ones for beginners, to full day adventures for experienced climbers.
Visit Wat Tham Sua
Wat Tham Sua (or Tiger Cave) temple sits on the top of the mountain not far from Krabi. After climbing 1,237 steps you will be rewarded by breath-taking views of Andaman Sea, mountains and lush green jungles. Find a quiet spot and soak in the calm atmosphere of the sacred place. The temple houses many holy relicts, including Buddha’s footprint.
How’s the food?
Krabi cuisine is a combination of Thai, Malay and Indian dishes. Local restaurants serve rich curries, grilled seafood with chilli and lime dip, and spicy papaya salads. In the evening stroll through the night market where you can try grilled pork and chicken and freshly made Pad Thai noodles. If you don’t feel like a big meal, opt for mouth-watering corn on a cob and coconut-filled desserts.
