Koh Rong Samloem

Scenic resorts • Secluded beaches • Plankton bioluminescence

If you’re craving beach paradise without the parties, Koh Rong Samloem island could be your perfect match. A little less popular with the backpacking crowd than neighbouring Koh Rong island, this idyllic destination attracts slightly older travellers, couples and families instead. Although there may be less to do and fewer accommodation options here, Koh Rong Somloem has plenty of beaches, bays and resorts to keep you busy (or super-relaxed!) for an amazing trip.

Why visit Koh Rong Samloem?

Many travellers visit Koh Rong Samloem on a day trip from Koh Rong. They have lunch at one of the great restaurants in Sacaren Bay, they chill out on the beach there or at M’Pai Bay (as both are close to the pier where they get dropped off)...and then they leave.

It’s a shame that they don’t see more of the island, as Koh Rong Samloem has plenty more to offer. Stick around for a few days and you’ll get to enjoy a mix of outdoor adventure activities and beach time during the day, plus the chance to swim among glowing plankton at night. As Koh Rong Samloem is one of the quietest islands, with little light pollution, it provides one of the best opportunities to witness this amazing scene.

Our travel team can help you discover the very best things to do, places to stay and restaurants to visit on this island, so you don’t miss a thing. The hardest part will be packing your bags to leave!

What to do in Koh Rong Samloem

Sure, it’s quieter than Koh Rong island. But there is definitely enough to do on Koh Rong Samloem for at least a few nights…

  • Pamper yourself with a stay in one of Saracen Bay’s luxury resorts
  • Check out Ponleu Spa for a traditional Khmer massage
  • Get active with mountain biking and jungle hikes to explore the island beyond its beaches
  • Still, don’t miss some of those amazing beaches! Lazy Beach, Sunset Beach, Sandy Beach and Clear Water Beach are all picture-perfect, wonderful for snorkelling and the best way to rest after your jungle trek!
  • Book a night boat trip to see the bioluminescent plankton – most likely, leaving from Long Beach.

Ready for beach bliss?

Koh Rong Somloem caters for the adventurists, the sun-worshippers, the thrifty and the big-spenders alike. Whatever you plan on doing here, it’ll be against a backdrop of the most beautiful beaches, clear waters and green jungle you’re likely to see. Not a bad way to spend a few days, right?!

Getting to any island requires a little planning, however – so to make the transfer as smooth and simple as possible, chat to our local travel team. We know the island inside out and would be happy to arrange your transport, accommodation and recommend the best things to do when you’re here.
