A Quick Guide to Ha Long Bay

Ha Long Bay is a huge bay filled with emerald green waters and punctuated by limestone karsts. It’s one of Vietnam’s most beautiful sites and is recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Visitors can take a one, two or three day cruise around the bay on one of our luxury or boutique boats, taking in the scenery, kayaking through caves, enjoying the fresh seafood and unwinding on the top deck.

What to do and see in Ha Long Bay

Kayak through hidden caves

Lots of the limestone karsts hide beautiful caves filled with stalagmites. You can kayak through them and depending on the weather, stop for a spot of lunch inside.

Lounge around on secret beaches

Ha Long Bay hides hundreds of secret beaches along the edges of its limestone karsts. If you are on a three day cruise (and some two day cruises) we’ll take you exploring to find a nice secluded spot where you can take a dip and indulge in a little sunbathing.

Enjoy the all inclusive meals

You will be pampered and well fed on all Wide Eyed Tours boats where you will be delighted with the range of delicious dishes that seem never ending. Make sure you lay back and enjoy the service.

Take plenty of photos

The dramatic limestone karsts, calm emerald waters and hidden caves make excellent photos. Make sure you bring along your camera and a waterproof bag for it.

How’s the food?

If you’re travelling on one of our preferred boats we can guarantee it’ll be plentiful and excellent. Expect big plates of seafood, delicious meat curries, full rice dishes, lush salads and loads of sides.

Quick Tips

Make sure you pick the right number of days for you. If you like long bouts of relaxation punctuated with a few activities, go for three days. If you want to do some kayaking and beach exploring at a leisurely pace, go for two.

Is Ha Long Bay for you?

Ha Long Bay is perfect for nature lovers, cruise enthusiasts and anyone who needs a relaxing break from the hustle and bustle of Hanoi. If you like longer cruises we suggest taking a look at our Luxury Mekong River Cruises.

The best time to go to Ha Long Bay

You can visit Ha Long Bay at any time of the year but be warned, it can be cold in winter. Between January and March the temperatures drop below 10c. The best months to visit are between April and May when the sun is shining, the temperature is mild and the visibility excellent. Between June and August expect some heavy showers and between September and November expect excellent weather scattered with the odd storm.
