SIEM REAP TEMPLE TOUR

FROM 303 pp

ITINERARY

1
DAY 1: ARRIVE IN SIEM REAP
Upon arrival in Siem Reap, your driver and local guide will be waiting at the airport to take you to the hotel. The Siem Reap temple tour is the highlight of the holiday, however, we have handpicked a few other activities to showcase Cambodian culture.  The driver will pick you up from the hotel at 07:15 pm and take you to the Big Top in Siem Reap to see the Phare Cambodian Circus. We have reserved the best seats (Seat A) in the house from 8-9 pm. The Phare Circus tells uniquely Cambodian stories using theatre, dance, music and acrobatics. It really is a must-see attraction in Cambodia. There are no animals using in the performance. It is then time to explore Siem Reap - a lively, funky town lined with restaurants, bars and markets. Visit the famous Pub Street later in the evening if you’re feeling particularly festive.

DAY 2: SUNRISE AT ANGKOR WAT
We depart pre-dawn and head to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Angkor Wat. Stare in wonderment as the sun rises over the horizon, casting brilliant silhouettes of the temple’s uniquely shaped towers. We then return to hotel for breakfast before starting the exploration of the vast network of temples inside Angkor Wat.  We start the tour inside the city of Angkor Thom, where stone statues of gods and demons are perched atop the city's walls. Behind the walls enormous stone faces and striking temples are waiting to be explored. Other temples and structures we visit on the tour include the Baphuon Temple, the Phimeanakas and Royal Palace Enclosure, the Terrace of the Elephants, and the Terrace of the Leper King The next stop on the tour of Angkor Wat is Ta Prohm. This temple is popular for photography enthusiasts, as wild jungle vines have completely enveloped the stone temple, snaking through archways and up staircases.  We then stop for lunch in front of Angkor Wat. Enjoy fresh fruit juices and a choice of traditional Khmer food or international dishes. After lunch we enter the main entrance of Angkor Wat and walk toward the main temple. This imposing structure houses galleries, libraries, pavilions, courtyards and ponds. Embedded into the stone walls, intricate carvings of Hindu legends and stories of victorious Khmer battles play out. Climb to the summit of the temple and be rewarded with superb views of the entire city and beyond.  The temple tour itinerary is flexible and may be adjusted by your local guide after consultation with you. Weather, festivals, your interests and energy levels all have a bearing on which temples to visit and in what order. Please bring your Angkor Entry Pass and don’t forget to have your knees and shoulders covered at all times when visiting the temples.

DAY 3: BENG MEALEA & TONLE SAP LAKE
This morning we explore the mystifying ruins of Beng Mealea. It is believed Beng Mealea was the blueprint for Angkor Wat. This temple is the most fun to explore, with crumbling stone blocks acting as stairs to the numerous subterranean chambers.  In the afternoon we travel East of Siem Reap to the floating village of Kompong Khleang on the edge of Tonle Sap Lake. The traditional boat ride to the traditional village, where locals live on stilted houses on the lake, gives you the chance to observe the daily lives of these fascinating people.
