Koh Kong

Lush rainforests • Pristine beaches • Varied wildlife

For travellers seeking a more authentic experience, and a chance to witness Cambodian island life up close in the midst of some incredible scenery, Koh Kong Cambodia is as good as it gets. The island lies in Koh Kong Province, around 10km south of Koh Kong town. It allows visitors to swap the resorts for fishing villages, the restaurants for fresh seafood grilled on the beach, and to enjoy some jungle treks among a rich and varied wildlife population. Quiet, unassuming and still outstandingly beautiful, the rainforests, mountains and lagoons of Koh Kong island beg to be discovered.

Why visit Koh Kong?

Koh Kong, or Outer Koh Kong, has all the elements of a perfect beach holiday. Glorious, white-sand beaches, swaying palm trees, calm and turquoise waters, great seafood and friendly locals. But it also has plenty to see in and around Koh Kong town, the mangroves and waterfalls of Koh Kong island, or the evocatively named Cardamom mountain range, towering above the town.

Although Koh Kong is Cambodia’s largest island, it’s less commercialised than the islands of Sihanoukville Province, which lie further south. It also has a strong military presence, meaning access to the island itself is tightly controlled – and the best way to see it is as part of a private tour.

With a visit to Koh Kong, travellers get the chance to experience Cambodian culture among its fishing villages, to enjoy the chaos and colour of its markets, to sample traditional seafood dishes and soak up the sun on secluded stretches of its many beaches.

Koh Kong also is also a nature lovers’ paradise, with unique mangrove forests holding plenty of eco-tourism activities, and plenty of trekking trails to explore the island. The gorgeous Tatai Waterfall offers the perfect chance to cool off afterwards, too! Nature enthusiasts may also like a day trip to Peam Krasaop Wildlife Sanctuary – they can arrive by longboat by booking a boat trip in Koh Kong, 20km away.

Our travel team can make all the arrangements so you get to experience this magnificent spot in all its glory. Let us know what you’re interested in doing – from sun-soaking to hiking to camping – and we’ll customise the best experiences Koh Kong has to offer.

Get back to nature…
