Koh Russey

Luxury villas • Unspoilt beaches • Jungle interior

Koh Russey, Koh Russei, or “Bamboo Island” may very well be the crown jewel of Cambodia's Sihanoukville province. Just a few miles from the mainland of Sihanoukville Province and surrounded by the warm, turquoise waters of the Gulf of Thailand, this tiny jungle-covered island is picture-perfect, a cliché of a tropical paradise. It’s hard to imagine anywhere more beautiful to visit – or anywhere more wonderful to stay, than at the luxurious Koh Russey Beach resort.

Why visit Koh Russey Beach?

Although many of Cambodia’s islands – such as Koh Rong, Koh Rong Samloem and Koh Kong – have a lot going for them in terms of white sand beaches, clear waters and jungle trekking opportunities, increasing tourism has led to more development on these islands. Sure, quiet beaches exist there – but none quite as pristine, unspoilt and peaceful as Koh Russey Beach.

Due to the size of the island, which you can cross in ten minutes to visit both beaches, Koh Russey isn’t on most travellers’ itineraries…certainly not on backpackers’ ones, at least! In search of more watersports, nightlife and activities, they seek out Koh Rong instead.

Some tourists visit Koh Russey as part of a day trip. But for those who can afford it, Koh Russey Villas Resort offers a holiday like no other. The modernist slate and glass buildings are designed to blend into the coastline rather than obstruct it and are barely visible behind coconut trees and filao trees as you approach the island by speedboat.

And so begins a stay of pure indulgence and pampering, lounging on a beautiful beach or beside an expansive swimming pool, with nothing to do other than browse the cocktail menu. It’s no surprise that the resort is popular with honeymooners, as the gorgeous architecture, warm staff and idyllic surroundings make it the perfect backdrop for such a special time.

Although of course, Koh Russey is a great place to visit for anyone in search of a quiet beach escape – and since you can reach it in just 15 minutes from Sihanoukville, it’s pretty easy, too!

Visitors to Koh Russey can also enjoy Khmer cooking classes, mangrove boat tours, stand-up paddleboarding, plus kayaking and snorkelling around the coral reef.

Koh Russey can be a little trickier to visit if you’re not staying at the Villas Resort. Luckily, our local travel team can assist you in making the journey across – so you don’t miss out on witnessing this fabulous island.

Ready for Russey?!

If you want a once-in-a-lifetime holiday experience – plus the kind of photos that’ll make friends at home particularly jealous! – it doesn’t get more beautiful than Koh Russey. And whether you’re on vacation from a busy work life, or from your travel adventures around Cambodia and beyond, Koh Russey is your chance to slow down, take a breath and put your feet up. Whenever you’re ready to face the ‘real world’ again, well, that’s your call.

Our travel assistants can help you with all your transfers, accommodation and any other tips you might need to visit Koh Russey. We’ll sort out the logistics so you can get on with enjoying your holiday.
