Frequently asked questions about Luang Prabang
Where should I stay in Luang Prabang?
Luang Prabang accommodation is probably the most diverse in Laos. When choosing where to stay, the city offers two riverfronts – one along the Mekong and the other by the Nam Khan River – and both are lined with options. For a central location, the Old Quarter puts you right in the heart of the action.
Whether you’re seeking a luxurious heritage hotel, a riverside resort, a charming boutique hotel or a rustic hideaway, we’ve got the perfect option for you. Just let us know your preferences when planning your trip.
How many days should I stay in Luang Prabang?
Realistically, 2 or 3 days will allow you to see all the main sites Luang Prabang has to offer. While 3–5 days would allow you to do this and have extra time to enjoy the myriad of cafes and restaurants in the appropriate chilled-out fashion they deserve. To truly relax into the glacial, Laotian, speed of life? Give yourself a week.
Is Luang Prabang worth visiting?
It sure is. Luang Prabang is unlike anywhere else in Southeast Asia. It combines the laid-back vibes and charming architecture of a quiet European town with the serenity and mystique of being the spiritual heart of a deeply Buddhist country. Nestled on the banks of the region's mightiest river and surrounded by jungle-clad mountains, Luang Prabang rarely disappoints those who visit.
How safe is Luang Prabang?
Luang Prabang is a peaceful city with a welcoming population, and violent crime against tourists is extremely rare. The main concern for visitors is the traffic; while the town isn't particularly busy, road rules are, shall we say, loosely followed. For boat trips, it's advisable to book through recommended operators…but don't worry, we'll take care of that!
